Health Technology Reference Group undertakes horizon scanning to identify, share and manage evidence-based information on significant new and emerging health technologies with Australian States and Territory health jurisdictions.
Upon the identification of health technologies requiring further assessement, health technology evaluators are contracted to undertake healthcare technology assessments and produce reports for the reference group. The two main type of reports commissioned are New and Emerging Health Technology Reports (an indepth, but non-systematic review of a technology) and Technology Briefs (a brief overview of a technology).

Technologies assessed prior to 2011
The New and Emerging Health Technology Reports (NEHTR), previously known as either Horizon Scanning Reports, Technology Briefs or Prioritising Summaries, were considered by the Health Policy Advisory Committee on Technology (HealthPACT) during the period November 2003 and November 2010. These reports and summaries were prepared by Adelaide Health Technology Assessment (AHTA) and the Australian Safety and Efficacy Register of New Interventional Procedures – Surgical (ASERNIP-S) who were contracted to support HealthPACT's work.
